Installation, inspection and maintenance certification for fire doors, fire resistant windows, glazed screens and firestopping products
All of these schemes are UKAS accredited and are based on approving supervisors who then take responsibility for up to 15 operatives. The supervisors need to take responsibility for all activities that are done under their control, which would mean either being present at each site, or having a feedback mechanism to check the work, together with regular spot checks.
We would need to conduct an initial audit at a site where you have carried out work (or preferably are in the process of doing the work) which would be covered by the scheme. Once certified, site visits would be required every six months to cover activities for all schemes that are certified at a site where the activities are being carried out.
Installation of external windows, doors and conservatories
This UKAS accredited scheme is designed to provide installers of external windows, door sets, soffits, facias, conservatories and orangeries the means to demonstrate that their standard of installation will be appropriate.
Fire Door Inspection Scheme
In order to join the scheme, your inspections would need to be formally reported, and a suitable processes be in place to ensure that as a minimum all fire resistant doorsets are:
- Inspected to determine whether the doorset still complies with the manufacturer’s specifications, or alternatively an appropriate industry recognised code of practice (e.g. BS 8214) where such instructions are either not available or unsuitable.
- Inspected in such a manner as to identify and report any areas where there is a risk that the fire resistant properties of the doorset have not been maintained (for example through damage, installation issues or a change to the manufacturer’s specification)
- Checked to identify the risk that appropriate supporting documentation is not available to confirm the fire resistance of the doorset (i.e. whether fire test evidence is available).
Firestopping Installation Scheme
In order to join the scheme, you must be using fire stopping seal solutions that have a proven fire resistance, so you would either follow the manufacturer’s data sheets, or engineering judgements. When we come out to audit you, you would need to present the relevant data sheets so that we can inspect the seals that you have fitted against these.
Fire Door Installation Scheme
In order to join the scheme, you would need to be using a proven product, and following the manufacturer’s installation instructions. You would also need to demonstrate that whatever you use to firestop the frame to the surrounding structure is suitable for fire doorset applications, and applicable for the configuration that you are using it in.
Fire Door Maintenance Scheme
The fire door maintenance scheme operates on the basis of you restoring the doorset back to the original manufacturer’s specification. It does not cover any “upgrade” work, or anything that would result in a deviation from the manufacturer’s test evidence. You would need to demonstrate that whatever work you undertake as part of this scheme restores the doorset to the original manufacturer’s specification
Fire Resistant Window Installation Scheme
In order to join the fire resistant window installation scheme, you would need to be using a proven product, and following the manufacturer’s installation instructions. You would also need to demonstrate that whatever you use to firestop the frame to the surrounding structure is suitable for the fire resistant product that you are installing, and applicable for the configuration that you are using it in.
Installation of Windows, Doors, Conservatories and Orangeries
In order to join the scheme, an initial audit is conducted at your head office to verify that appropriate procedures are in place to control the installations, followed by inspections of site where you have carried out work (or preferably are in the process of doing the work).
On going requirements include an office visit for each location where installations are co-ordinated and a minimum of two site installation visits per year.
